TV COMMERCIALS

TV Commercials aren’t what they used to be!

To start with the abbreviation “TV” is over.  Today delivery takes multiple forms including Cable, YouTube, FaceBook, Viral, Website embed, among others.  “Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore!”

Essential elements of a commercial video that make an impact

“Dense” is the term used to describe the best experience. We can pause, rewind, and view multiple times so packing highly dense information wall to wall is not only possible, it is preferable.

One thing that has not changed through the history of visual media is that content is King and quality is too!  Here are the elements to strive for in making a video designed to sell.

•     Story, story, story

•     Story, story, story

•     Story, story, story

•     Story, story, story

•    Direction

•    Quality in shooting

•    Talent casting

•    Post including Music

Shooting in Los Angeles or even a city in Europe may cost less than you think, and it may enhance your project.  I'll give you my best evaluation for location, talent search, and creative design

Casting in Los Angeles and flying the talent in is a smart option.

It isn't that the talent does not exist in the local market but there are just fewer choices and less experience.

Nothing saves time on a set like experienced actors.  And nothing makes you happy in the edit like experienced actors.

Spanish language casting should take place in Miami, Los Angeles, and Mexico to achieve maximum options.

Nothing saves time and  money like making good decisions about effects.  A "practical" choice can look better and save a lot of time, read money, in post.

Though it is not always the best option it should be discussed early on in the process.  In fact, I try to get writers in a conf call with efx before they write if there is an anticipation of effects in a given spot.

I've yet to meet a writer who is anything but grateful for such a conversation.
